Tomato N' Blues


Day 17: The Tomato N’ Blues Salad from Sweet P’s (with a side of baked macaroni and cheese).

We took our friends to Sweet P’s BBQ just down the road from our house. It was recently featured on an episode of Travel Channel’s Man v. Food for it’s Gigante Burrito Challenge. Check out the video here.

I figured that there would be cole slaw and potato salad, but I was very happy to see that they had a specialty salad on the menu: Tomato N’ Blues Salad.

Our signature salad and most popular starts with chopped grape tomatoes, cucumbers, and yellow peppers and is then tossed with chunks of blue cheese and homemade tomato vinaigrette making this salad a true original.

I was a little afraid of the salad because I have a fear of grape/cherry tomatoes. Many years ago I ate a rotten grape tomato — and it was the most horrible thing I had ever tasted. The inside was completely black and mushy… and I puked. But the description for the Sweet P’s salad looked so good, I thought I could go for it. And I did. And it was good. However, a little more than halfway through the salad, I started to think about the rotten tomato that I ate (which was almost 10 years ago), so I had to give the rest of the tomatoes to Brandon before I made myself sick.

This was a really great salad, and I’m going to try to make a version of this at home. But it’ll just be a Blues Salad for me. Sorry, grape tomatoes. I still hate you.

I suppose that this dinner would would have been 100% healthy, but I couldn’t resist the temptation of homemade macaroni and cheese — especially after seeing it get pulled out of the oven right in front of me. ♥ Cheese ♥
